The radio works as promised. Bought it to use while my mast is down traveling though the Erie Canal.I was a bit concerned about the 9hr battery life published on their website but did not see any others I was interested in that offered anything better. Once I started using it I really have no complaints.Battery life is way better then expected in fact I had it on for 38hrs straight as we crossed lake Erie monitoring channel 16 and did not even loose a bar of power in the meter.While in the canal it worked well and I never lost a bar of power despite leaving it on for 48hrs monitoring channel 13 in low power mode.
One can really crank the volume up and transmissions I'm told come in very clear. I would imagine you would not have any trouble hearing this while working in very loud environments?
I have small kids and was worried about it going overboard so I went with the floating version. I wish it came in another color as I'm guessing black will blend into the water pretty well when it does go overboard.I tossed it in my hot tub to test the floating feature and it did and continued to work fine all while turned on!
Downside to this unit is the expensive tray one needs to buy if you want to use AA batts & the fact that the power goes from 6w to 1w when you go with this option. This unit was expensive & for the price it would be nice for them to have included the optional AA battery tray.The only other possible downside is the time it takes to charge (Unit was not fully recharged during a quick 6hr overnight (after the 38hr usage period mentioned above) but since I never lost a bar on the power meter I'm not holding this against it as it worked fine for 8hrs the next day (still reading full power).

One thing I like about this mount, you don't need any tools to put it on the boat. It uses bolts with sturdy thumb type screws and your done. Also, can't go wrong with good solid marine plywood. In the end, its a motor mount and it does what it is designed to do for the intex boats. Holds that little Minn Kota Endura 30 really good. The mount can accept a 3.5hp but on the Excursion boats you can only put up to a 1.5hp or up to 18 lbs motor weight. If you want to go to a 3.5 you will need to get a Sea Hawk II or Mariner boat.
